He was invited for a lung health check in May 2024 and, following the detection of lung cancer, received early treatment, ultimately saving his life.

Since its inception, over 10,678 lung cancers have been detected, with a staggering 77% caught at stages one or two. This early detection is crucial, as patients diagnosed at these stages are nearly 13 times more likely to survive for five years compared to those diagnosed late. Lung cancer, the third most common cancer in the UK, claims around 26,000 lives annually, with smoking being the primary cause in seven out of 10 cases.
